Laser247 Sign Up: Steyn Calls Jansen the Best Cricketer
Laser247 Sign Up readers can catch the latest cricket news as South African legend Dale Steyn praises Marco Jansen for his outstanding performance against Australia. Jansen has made a strong impact in the second Test at St George’s Park in Gqeberha.
The tall all-rounder scored 85 runs with the bat and then claimed five wickets. His efforts helped South Africa move closer to a series-levelling win. At the end of day four, the hosts needed just six more wickets to secure victory.
Steyn praised Jansen on social media and called him the best cricketer in the world at present. The comment reflects Jansen’s growing influence in international cricket.
Jansen Focuses on Team Success
Jansen has earned praise for his ability to contribute with both bat and ball. Former South African captain Graeme Smith has also backed him to become the world’s leading all-rounder.
The current Test all-rounder rankings add weight to that view. India’s Ravindra Jadeja remains ahead of Jansen, but the South African star continues to build his reputation through consistent performances.
Jansen welcomed the praise but kept his focus on the team’s needs. He explained that he often thinks deeply about his role and how he can improve. Above all, he wants to become a player his teammates can trust during difficult moments.
South Africa Need Six Wickets
South Africa entered the final day with a clear chance to level the three-match series. However, Australia still had a strong batting threat at the crease. Travis Head remained unbeaten on 87, while Steve Smith and Alex Carey were yet to bat.
Jansen knows that his team must stay patient. Test cricket often rewards sides that follow their plans and maintain pressure over long periods. One good session can change the direction of a match, so South Africa cannot afford to relax.
The team will aim to take regular wickets and avoid giving Australia easy scoring chances. A disciplined bowling effort could bring the hosts a valuable victory.
